While visiting Rexburg this last week my family and I strolled on down to the nature park. When I was a kid this area could better be describe as an industrial waste site, but due to the miracles of fill dirt most of that history has disappeared. In fact, I was talking with Jeff Nelson and he reminded me we used to make rafts out of old tires and palates and cruise around the swampy pit (we called them the first and second pit). It’s amazing our parents didn’t, or more likely couldn’t, stop us from going there.

skateparkWell now you don’t have to worry about your children playing in dangerous places. There’s walking paths, ponds to fish in, a football field, roller and ice hockey rink (time of year thing), playground, covered picnicking, ducks to feed, and the concrete skate park. Just take 5th West till it wraps around the rodeo track, turn down into the nature park at the sign, and park when you see concrete and skateboards.

Of course I wish the nature park was there when I was a kid, and who knows if I would be a pro skater now, but I’m glad it’s here for the resident’s of Rexburg now. If you need something to do and you have a little moldy bread for the ducks and a skateboard, scooter, or bike, then head on down to the nature park.

My children, nieces and nephew, my baby daughter, and I had a great time playing around on it while my wife was off doing photography. She never would have let me attempt this. Nobody was hurt, it was fun, and now I have this video to show for it.
