REXBURG POLITICS: “Reverse Angle Is A Good Idea?”

Submitted by Guest_Writer on November 22, 2009 – 9:40 pm3 Comments

reverseanglepark_story1Reverse angle parking sucks. We’ve all seen it and from day one we all knew what a bad idea it was. Not only did the city overhaul its parking regulations and fees, the engineering department decided that backing in to parking spots is a good thing. And now to make things worse, the City Council decided earlier this week that it has worked and to keep it until spring, at which time they will reevaluate.

A presentation was made that over the course of three days there was 80% compliance. Anyone who has taken statistics knows that three days isn’t enough of a sample, but then again that’s good enough for government work. They stated that there hasn’t been enough time to prove that it doesn’t work and that many have complied. Of course we have. They’re all law abiding Mormons, aren’t they?

Not only was it a bad idea, it was dumb to say we should keep it. No need to explain why, cause anyone with half as much brain activity as an incoming freshman (which obviously our government doesn’t have) knows why reverse angle parking is a bad idea. This is just another example as to why government, on all levels, lacks common sense.

Anyway, just thought you’d like to know what our Council is up to.

One reason they are keeping it until spring, as stated at the council meeting, was that it is too late in the year to repaint the stripes. And the snowstorm this weekend proved them right. If you are going to report what happens at the meetings, report the whole story.

I’m not looking to be a reporter. I’m here to write about stories in a view that all would like. I know I didn’t say anything about timing. I chose not to. My purpose was to show that most of the Council Members think that a bad idea is a good one.

You may not be a reporter, but to give an opinion, at least a good one, you need to understand the other side of the issue. That is, it was too late in the year to repaint the stripes, which makes logical sense.

If you want to illustrate how the city council can’t make good decisions, I suggest you pick a different topic.
